There is a reason it has taken me awhile to post this message from October 22nd. Here is the story…

After church that Sunday, we ran to the lake to get the boat out for the season. After one final cruise around the lake, we went to the boat launch to take the boat out. As we were finishing our cruise, the wind starting picking up. The wind was blowing across the boat launch making it extra difficult.

My nerves and my stress started getting the best of me. Then, in an effort to straighten out the boat on the trailer, I slipped on the trailer and my shin caught the jagged bottom edge of the trailer. It was like someone hacked me across the shin with a large knife. Blood was pouring down my leg…and I fell apart.

In this message, you will hear me ask the question, “Do you like the person you meet when you’re by yourself?” We’ve also talked the last couple of weeks about how Jesus said, “Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks” (Luke 6:45). Well, sadly, I wasn’t even alone and I didn’t like the person I met…or that my wife and kids met. I did not like what was, apparently, in abundance in my heart.

We did, finally, get the boat out of the lake and into winter storage. Sadly though, there was a lot of apologizing, repentance, guilt, shame, and physical pain after the adrenaline wore off and I came to my senses and we headed to the ER for some stitches. I was embarrassed and ashamed of myself. I don’t know if I’ve ever been more humbled, or more in need of my own message that I preached that morning! The voices of guilt and shame in my head have not been that loud for a very long time.

I had [have] to deal with the voices in my head…
and confront them with the Truth of Scripture.
I want to more clearly hear His voice speaking to me.

Here are some of the passages I use to help me confront those voices with the Truth of Scripture…

Psalm 17:8 – Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings.

John 15:8 – “As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you.

John 10:10 – “…I have come that [you] may have life, and have it to the full.

John 3:16 – For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Romans 5:8 – But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

1 Peter 5:7 – Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

Psalm 55:22Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.

Isaiah 41:10So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Isaiah 43:2 – When you pass through the waters,
                            I will be with you;
                        and when you pass through the rivers,
                            they will not sweep over you.
                        When you walk through the fire,
                            you will not be burned;
                            the flames will not set you ablaze.
